OP hockey: Quakers 2, Niagara Wheatfield 1
The Orchard Park hockey team defeated Niagara Wheatfield in the first round of the large school playoffs on Friday, Feb. 18, 2-1. The Quakers received goals from Mike Held and Joe Mesi.

Orchard Park Alumni John Klanac (2006), Pete Freyer (2006) and Tom Comfort (2009) helped the Western region capture the gold medal at this year’s Empire State Games held in Buffalo.

Senior Tim Felong:
“We had character guys that were going to do whatever it took to win for the guy sitting next to him. We weren’t the most skilled team, but we had character. We won the division title for the first time and were a win away from the Federation regular season title. There is some satisfaction in that respect. There has always been a lot of hockey talent in Orchard Park and the team is very well coached so I believe the team will be very strong year after year.”
