Golf finishes second at team championships

The Orchard Park golf team finished second among four teams in the ECIC Team Championships at the Diamond Hawk Golf Course Monday, Oct. 15.

Large School North Division winner Williamsville North finished in first (302) ahead of the Quakers, who won the Large School South Division, by just five strokes (307). Small School South Division champion Eden (338) finished third with Starpoint, winner of the Small School North Division finishing fourth (344).

Orchard Park was the only team among the four competing groups to have all 8 players shoot under 50. (Only seven players’ scores count toward team total). Every Quaker shot 48 or under.

Leading the way for the Quakers was senior Cameron Steele (40), who shot just one stroke off the day’s best score by sophomore Sean brown of Starpoint. Senior David Lawton and junior Adam Patronik shot 43, while junior Todd Stebbins shot a 44. Freshman Alex Prise shot a 45.

Quakers qualify eight golfers for ECIC championships

The Orchard Park golf team defeated Frontier for the second time this season on Wed., Oct. 3 with a 305-313 victory to capture the Large School South division title – the school’s first division title since 2008.

Junior Adam Patronik and senior Cameron Steele shot a 41 while senior Nick Dietrick sophomore Erich Spitz shot a 42 to help the Quakers to a 9-1 record.

Meanwhile, eight OP golfers have qualified to play in the ECIC Championships scheduled to be played at Diamond Hawk in Cheektowaga on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Patronik, ranked 10th among ECIC golfers with a 40.2 average, leads the field of OP’s eight players among the 80 participants. Steele (21st, 41.1), senior Justin Allmark (23rd – 41.2), Dietrick (28th, 41.6), freshman Alex Prise (48th, 43.1), junior Todd Stebbins (52nd, 43.6), Spitz (65th, 44.2), and senior David Lawton (80th, 45.0) are the other qualifying golfers or the Quakers.

OP Golf: Quakers bounce back from first loss

Despite suffering its first loss of the season to Lancaster (309-202) on Monday, the Orchard Park golf team bounced right back with a 296-306 victory over Hamburg at the Wanakah County Club on Tuesday.

The Quakers, now with a 6-1 record, are battling Lancaster (6-1) and Frontier (5-2) for first place in the ECIC Large School Division.

Lancaster and Frontier play Thursday, while OP will play West Seneca West (1-4) at Harvest Hill.

Orchard Park has four players currently ranked between 18 and 23 among ECIC golfers. Senior Justin Allmark, ranked 18th, is carrying a 40.85 average. Cameron Steele is right behind Allmark with an even 41.00 average. Senior Nick Dietrick and junior Adam Patronik are tied at 22 with identical 41.28 averages.

Freshman Alex Prise has shown incredible consistency with a 42.83 average over six rounds (42, 43, 44, 43, 42, 43).

OP golf tops Frontier to remain undefeated

The Orchard Park golf team shot its second best score of the season to topple Frontier Thursday, 285-301.

The victory, captured at the Orchard Park Country Club, keeps the Quakers undefeated with a 5-0 record on the season.

Freshman Jack Devic shot the lowest score of the match (37), while junior Adam Patronik (38) and senior Justin Allmark (39) turned in solid performances.

Senior Cameron Steele hit back-to-back birdies to close the round with a 40.

The Quakers lost to Frontier twice by one stroke last season.

Undefeated golf team looks to keep perfect record

Back-to-back wins versus West Seneca schools improved the Orchard Park golf team improved to an undefeated 4-0 mark.

At the Orchard Park Country Club versus West Seneca West on Tuesday, the Quakers’ top seven golfers combined to shoot 302 to West’s 336. Senior Nick Dietrick earned the day’s top score shooting 38 over nine holes.

On Wednesday at Hickory Hill versus West Seneca East, the Quakers shot 305 to the Trojans’ 361. Senior Justin Allmark earned the top score (38).

Orchard Park previously earned wins over West Seneca East on Sept. 11, 295-353, and Hamburg on Sept. 13, 284-316.

Orchard Park will play Frontier Thursday at 3 p.m. to retain sole possession of 1st place in Large Schools South Division (ECIC). The Quakers lost to Frontier twice by one stroke last season.

ECC golf being cut – WIVB video featuring OP’s Kyle Harman

As reported by Patrick Moran of Buffalo Sports Daily, the cuts being made to the athletic program at Erie Community College total roughly $40,000, with golf costing just over seven thousand dollars.

Additionally, Moran discovered that: “E.C.C. began the school year with an $112,112 surplus in the athletic department, according to the U.S. Department of Education website”.

Harman is top golfer in regional tourney for ECC

Orchard Park graduate Kyle Harman took medalist honors for Erie Community College on Tuesday at the NJCAA Region III Tournament at Cornell. Despite the success of Harman and his teammates, the golf program has been cut at ECC.
